Have you ever been offered a job and felt like they offered you a low salary, just because of what you earned before?

You’re not alone. Too many South Africans - especially black professionals, women, and young people - are stuck earning less than they deserve. And it’s not because they lack the skills. It’s because they’re being judged on what they used to earn, not what they’re actually worth.

That’s unfair. That’s unjust. And it needs to stop. The Fair Pay Bill will change that. It says:

• No more forcing you to produce your old payslip.

• No more silent discrimination.

• Job ads must show the pay range upfront, so you know what the job is worth before you apply.

We’re tired of working twice as hard to earn half as much.

    I work in a workplace where my salary is half of others in the company get and discriminated due to the CEO wife to get the minimum salary for the value I am to the company.

    Too many of us black and brown people of this country have been short-changed and paid less than what our counterparts are being paid for doing exactly the same jobs we do. It’s not fair! This bill will help ensure that this practice comes to an end.

    People should be paid their worth and according to the value of the job. Most importantly, people should not be expected to produce their previous salary slip when applying to new employers.
