Urgent Action Required Taxi and Traffic Lawlessness in Kensington

Good day Traffic Services, Much respect to you and your team. We need your urgent assistance. Every morning Kensington residents witness brazen traffic lawlessness at the Voortrekker crossings. Taxis and private vehicles are repeatedly ignoring barriers and traffic controls, making illegal turns through the barrier at 4th Avenue and driving the wrong way and recklessly at the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Avenue crossings onto Voortrekker. These are not isolated incidents this is daily, dangerous, and unacceptable. Specific complaints and behaviours • Illegal turns through the barrier at the 4th Avenue crossing. • Vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road at the 5th–8th Avenue crossings. • Reckless driving and speeding through intersections and pedestrian areas. • Taxis from the Kenfac Taxi Association regularly: jumping stop streets; loading passengers in the middle of the road; reversing into oncoming traffic; stopping in the middle of four-way stops and intersections. A resident who was involved in an incident with a Kensington taxi was threatened. I will forward a voice note of the incident for your records and urgent review. • Immediate intervention and visible enforcement presence during morning peak times. • Targeted enforcement action at the 4th–8th Avenue crossings onto Voortrekker. • Engagement with the Kenfac Taxi Association to stop dangerous driving and intimidation. • Regular reporting back to the community on actions taken and measurable outcomes. We appreciate your support and expect decisive action. Kensington residents deserve safe streets and transparent accountability. Please treat this as urgent and advise on next steps. Kind regards, Concerned Residents of Kensington (Ward 56)

Unfair funding cuts affecting UNISA students

Petition is addressed to: UNISA students, UNISA board, Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Student Representatives. Demand for Explanation and Transparency We, the undersigned UNISA students, demand an explanation from NSFAS and UNISA authorities regarding the disproportionate impact of budget cuts on our living allowances. While other universities' students receive over R1,000, we are left with a meager R316.70, which is insufficient to cover basic living expenses. We require a detailed breakdown of NSFAS's budget allocation and expenditure, as mandated by the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and the Higher Education Act (HEA). Specifically, we seek transparency on how funds are being utilized, in accordance with the principles of transparency and accountability enshrined in the Constitution of South Africa. Furthermore, we demand evidence of the financial management practices employed by UNISA and NSFAS, including audits and financial reports. Failure to provide this information will lead us to escalate this matter to higher authorities, including the Minister of Higher Education and the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education. We will also explore all available legal avenues, including litigation, to ensure that our rights to education and dignity are protected. Reason This matter is crucial to me and others because the insufficient living allowance of R316.70 causes financial hardship, negatively impacting academic performance, motivation, and overall well-being. The disparity in funding between UNISA and other universities creates an unequal learning environment, disadvantaging UNISA students. Furthermore, the lack of transparency and accountability in NSFAS's budget allocation and expenditure raises concerns about financial management. This crisis also has broader implications, potentially limiting access to education, perpetuating socio-economic inequalities, and damaging the reputation of UNISA and NSFAS. Ultimately, it affects not only our academic success but also our emotional well-being, future prospects, and the overall quality of education we receive. Thank you for your support, Karabo Simelane, Johannesburg

Access to our Courts is a Constitutional Right, for AOG-BTG members & Pastors!

The joint National Leadership of the Assemblies of God Back to God (made up of the Teaching Team and the Executive Committee), have repeatedly flouted the governing instruments of the church i.e the Constitution of Assemblies of God Southern Africa(The Blue Book) and the Rules of Procedure of Assemblies of God Back to God(The Gold Book) with impunity. Two consecutive elective conferences collapsed because the Teaching Team violated the principle of separation of powers by assuming an administrative function at conference to impose their wishes. The Appointed Interim Transitional Committee and subsequently the newly elected Executive Committee have continued in the same trajectory of violating the same governing instruments to achieve their predetermined outcomes in church processes. An unconstitutional Resolution 3 of 2018 has been used to expel a Pastor for approoching the courts of the land to seek redress. This same resolution has not even been duly incorporated into the rules of procedure to legally form part of the governing instruments for discipline, its unconstitutionality not withstanding. Allowing the National Leadership to violate the churches rules of procedure, the churches constitution and the constitution of the land will set a precedence that will usher in draconian rule that not only disregards the churches own governing instruments, the constitution of the country but the very supreme law that governs the church, The Holy Bible. Let us stand together and say #Notonourwatch #No2unconstitutionalresolution #No2draconianrule Support the Legal Challenge against this injustice by signing this petition!

Replace the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans — Restoring Accountability

South Africa stands at a crossroads. Our democracy demands leaders chosen for merit, not recycled through power. The recent reappointment of a Minister previously removed from office undermines public trust, civilian oversight, and the integrity of our armed forces. We, the undersigned, call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to replace the current Minister of Defence and Military Veterans. This is not a partisan demand — it is a constitutional one. We demand leadership that reflects the values of accountability, transparency, and national service. We ask the Presidency to: Appoint a new Minister of Defence based on merit and public trust Commit to transparent criteria for future cabinet appointments Uphold the principles of the South African Constitution in all leadership decisions This petition is a civic ritual. It calls for structural correction, not personal attack. Why I Started This Petition is... Unemployment is not just a statistic — it’s our daily reality. Every day, more South Africans lose hope as opportunities shrink. Yet our leadership system recycles the same people from one ministry to another, decade after decade, without delivering real, lasting solutions. We cannot solve generational problems with outdated systems that protect positions instead of producing results. We need leaders with realistic, measurable goals they can achieve within five years. If they succeed, they can earn a second term — but after that, they must pass down their knowledge, networks, and experience to the next generation. No more seat-swapping. No more inherited power. Once you’ve served in national leadership, you should not serve again anywhere nationally. This will open the door for fresh thinkers, skilled professionals, and passionate citizens to step up — people who have proven themselves in their fields and are ready to lead with integrity. We, the youth of the late 90's and 2000s, are ready to claim our voice. We want a system where leadership is earned, not inherited — where every South African can see a clear path from hard work to high office. This will inspire our parents, our peers, and our children to dream bigger, work harder, and believe that they, too, can lead. The government is for the people. It’s time we all had a real chance. Sign and share. Let your voice be heard.

Stop the night time noise levels at Kwambonambi Primary School

To: The Principal and School Governing Body Kwambonmabi Primary School Dear Principal and Members of the School Governing Body, We, the undersigned residents of the neighbourhood adjacent to Kwambonambi Primary, are writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the recent disturbances caused by the church activities held on the school sports field during the school holidays. As you are aware, the school has rented out its sports field to a church that has erected a tent for their activities. This arrangement occurs every school holiday. While we understand the need for community engagement and support, we must express our deep concern and frustration over the repeated disturbances caused by these activities, particularly during nighttime hours. Despite previous complaints and an agreement that noise levels would be kept to a minimum during nighttime hours, we regret to inform you that this agreement has not been honoured. On 11 July 2025, the church began singing at 2:30 AM and continued until 5:30 AM. This is totally unacceptable and in direct violation of the agreement made with the residents. Furthermore, we find it unacceptable that we are not informed in advance about the church's presence on school grounds every holiday. This lack of communication and transparency is causing significant distress among the residents. We urge you to take immediate action to address these issues: Ensure that noise levels are strictly controlled during nighttime hours i.e. No music and singing until 9am as per the agreement. Provide advance notice to residents regarding any future rentals of the sports field, as per the prior agreement. Consider alternative arrangements that would minimize disruption to the neighborhood. We hope that you will take our concerns seriously and work towards a resolution that respects both the needs of the school and the rights of the residents. Failure to address these issues may result in further action being taken by the community. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Kwambonambi Residents

Stop Overstrand Punishing Our Pets Image

Stop Overstrand Punishing Our Pets

Please let’s unite in signing this petition to STOP the lashing out against our furry friends AND the discrimination against pet owners IN OVERSTRAND. We require this bylaw to be scrapped in its entirety as it was compiled by individuals with no knowledge of animals/pets and there is no law enforcement to manage this as we are constantly told the SAP have their hands full to secure our safety and follow up prosecution of the high crime rate in Overstrand! Overstrand government asked for input and feedback on this proposed bylaw relating to more strict control of dogs/cats in 2024. (All feedback it appears now was DISREGARDED and the bylaw was finalized regardless) We - signing this petition - disagree with the bylaw in its entirety! We require an explanation why this was implemented despite input and feedback provided - without consultation! Very detailed feedback was given at the time specifically related to: Any proposed restriction on the number of pets and the containment in a fully fenced property was NOT POSSIBLE as the informal settlements particularly do not have fences on many properties where many dogs roam. Breeding of dogs need to be looked at in consultation with veterinary knowledge but again, the problem is MORE RELEVANT to informal settlements (who may never have sterilization done as they will not pay for this) The registering of breeders is certainly required but does one really need to carry a certificate specifying/stating that your dog is sterilized with you? We are in South Africa where forgery and scams are rife - surely this piece of paper offers another opportunity to ‘FAKE’ another piece of paper. Here is a hint: For male dogs - turn dog over. Teach inspecting official what testicles looks like. If no testicles …. Dog is sterilized! Licensing of all pets at the council: we queue quite long enough for car license, property taxes, drivers license … another job created with another salary yet another ‘tax’ and another piece of paper? It is seldom the NUMBER of dogs in a household that presents a problem! THE NUISANCE/ BARKERS/ UNNECESSARY NOISE MAKERS are sometimes JUST ONE DOG on a property! (These will not be affected /included by this bylaw at all and the ‘untrained uncared dog will prevail) THIS DOG needs training and care !!! Dogs become a nuisance to others if they do not get attention/ are not trained and cared for properly! Dogs/cats do not know intuitively right from wrong / PETS NEED TRAINING! The importance of training is not even mentioned in the BYLAW! Dogs are largely kept for our safety! To alert us if our property or ourselves are endangered- if we reduce pets to satisfy this ‘whimsical bylaw’ of Overstrand - can Overstrand guarantee our safety? Can they? THE SCARIEST THOUGHT: crime rates are SKY HIGH!!!! 2 burglaries/ month in Kleinbaai alone!!! (We are not allowed statistics for Perlemoenbaai, Franskraal, etc as the SAP ‘cannot cope’ and to maybe provide this statistic, there is a fear transparency will show failure?) THE SAP ‘DO NOT HAVE MONEY OR VEHICLES TO PATROL OUR NEIGHBOURHOODS’ - so we are advised regularly! Now the SAP is going to ‘chase’ dogs and cats?? Is our safety going to be compromised even more and the crime rate going to increase more? There are several unanswered questions: In my opinion, who ever wrote this bylaw does not know anything about animals & their care stralization of a well looked after dog/well bred dog, as in many breeds, it is detrimental to their growth to have them stralized at 6 months. This must be taken into consideration. Has a council of veterinary doctors been consulted in putting this document together? Cats. Why do only females have to be to be sterilized? It is the unsterilized males that wonder, that create a comotion during season, usually go into yards & attack other cats. Where is the instruction that a vetenary opinion should be obtained at the property where an animal is kept and thought to be abused/sick/neglected. Why should only dogs be taxed & not cats? Why have no dogparks in all areas been demarcated before implementation. This has been addressed on various occasions and with various mayors and councilman with NO RESPONSE! From when and for how long does a "licence" last? How will this be managed? What about seasonal visitors? Do visitors need a seasonal ‘license’ for their pets? How will this be managed? This bylaw, while I understand that it may be nessasary in some situations, cannot be enforced. They would have wasted less money to implement a bylaw against dustbin scratchers!
