To the Lesedi Local Municipality,

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who demand an end to the unfair practice of electricity disconnections in our community. Despite paying rates, many residents, including the unemployed, people living with disabilities,senior citizens are being unfairly cut off from this essential service.

This unjust practice has severe consequences, including:

  • Threats to food safety and security
  • Disruption of small businesses and livelihoods
  • Negative impacts on education and healthcare
  • Increased inequality and hardship for the unemployed and people with chronic illnesses, seniors and disabled.

We urge the Lesedi Local Municipality to:

  • Immediately stop electricity disconnections for rate-paying RESIDENTS and disadvantaged families.
  • Implement fair and transparent billing practices (preferably a direct supply from Eskom)
  • Provide affordable and accessible electricity options for the unemployed, senior citizens, those living with disabilities and the sick including the community at large. ELECTRICITY IS A HUMAN BASIC RIGHT!!!
