We, the undersigned residents and students, are calling for an immediate temporary hold on all noise producing construction work, drilling, hammering and high-impact maintenance work at Harpers residence for the duration of the current examination period.
While we recognize that infrastructure development are necessary for the long-term improvement of student housing, the timing of these disruptive activities directly threatens our academic performance, sleep, mental well-being, and ability to succeed during finals.
Since February 2026, residents have been incredibly understanding, patient, and cooperative, tolerating constant noise, dust, and disruptions to their living spaces for nearly an entire semester.
We have now reached exam season, the most critical academic period of the semester. Students require environments that foster intense focus, deep study, and adequate rest.
Ongoing daytime drilling, hammering, and construction noise make it impossible to study in our own rooms or sleep properly after late-night study sessions. Defeating the purpose of living in a dedicated academic residence instead of an apartment.
Every student pays residence fees with the expectation that their living environment will support, not hinder, their academic success. Forcing students to endure construction noise while preparing for high-stakes exams is a direct compromise of our academic well-being.
We are not asking for the project to be abandoned. We are asking for a reasonable, temporary compromise:
- An Immediate Hold all disruptive construction and noise-heavy operations at Harpers residence starting immediately until the final day of exams.
- Transparent Communication: Provide residents with clear, written confirmation of the adjusted construction schedule for the remainder of the exam period.
Our grades, our health, and our hard work deserve respect. Give students the quiet environment they need to succeed.
