We, the undersigned residents of Reservoir Hills and surrounding areas, submit this petition in support of the application by the Shree MarieAmmen Temple Society, Reservoir Hills, for the allocation of 6 500 m² of municipal land on Erf 3213 for the construction of a MarieAmmen Temple. Reservoir Hills is home to a significant Hindu population with limited access to a nearby place of worship. The Shree MarieAmmen Temple has, for decades, served as an important centre for spiritual, cultural, and social support, uniting the community through prayer, cultural observances, and charitable outreach — including during challenging periods of our country’s history. Since 2003, the Temple Society has consistently engaged the Municipality and made ongoing attempts to purchase the land. Despite more than two decades of effort, the matter remains unresolved, and the community continues to hope for a favourable conclusion. The proposed temple will serve as both a place of worship and a community hub promoting: • Cultural preservation and heritage • Youth development and moral education • Community upliftment and social cohesion • Charitable outreach and support programmes The Temple Society also hosts major Hindu festivals that attract residents from Reservoir Hills, Westville, New Germany, Clare Estate, Phoenix, and Chatsworth. These events encourage peaceful interaction, strengthen cultural understanding, and contribute positively to the local economy. Allocating this land aligns with: • The constitutional right to freedom of religion, belief, and association • The Municipality’s goals of inclusive development, social cohesion, and community well-being In light of the long-standing efforts since 2003 and the continued need for a Hindu place of worship in Reservoir Hills, we respectfully request favourable consideration of this application.
